I am a Registered Dietitian, board certified Integrative and Functional Nutritionist and Certified LEAP Therapist. I specialize in food medicine for tough joint pain conditions like Psoriatic Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Fibromyalgia.
My husband and I live on a ranch in the high deserts of Nevada raising cattle, chickens and 5 little humans. I get excited about raising my own food, being outdoors, and experimenting with traditional food preparations that allow us to eat a high quality, tasty diet that doesn’t spark autoimmune flares for my husband… and that I just feel good about feeding my family!
A few years ago, after visiting many different doctors and receiving several false diagnoses and flippantly-written prescriptions, we finally received the alarming news that my husband had several autoimmune conditions: psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and possibly eosinophilic esophagitis and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
It wasn’t long before his joints were so stiff and sore that he could no longer do activities he loved, like wrestling the kids, or playing basketball. Requirements of ranch life like pitch-forking hay and mounting a horse became painful. He limped around like a man 3 times his age.
My husband asked if there was anything I could do to help.
Although I had been a registered dietitian for years, I had no idea if nutrition could help autoimmune disease. But we were desperate for a solution that didn’t involve stronger medications or a lifetime of disability.
I was determined to learn how to help. But all the trusted resources online listed only medications as treatment, or gave vague advice like “eat a healthy diet.” I thought we were already doing that. Other sources outright discouraged using diet or exercise as treatments.
I was so frustrated.
Eventually, I turned to the research myself and found there are a lot of studies showing food as promising medicine. And eventually I found many other practitioners using something called “Functional Medicine” to improve and even reverse chronic diseases like arthritis.
Whew! I was not alone or crazy in thinking nutrition could help my husband.
We saw incredible improvements in my husband’s health, my own health, and the health of family and friends that let me “experiment” on them.
I soaked up everything I possibly could learn from books, webinars and podcasts.
I took a course to become a Certified LEAP Therapist so I could try the Mediator Release Test (MRT) on my husband. It finally turned things around for him.
Clients had enough faith in me to try this “new” LEAP therapy- with amazing results. People who were failing on medications were now thriving! I watched years of symptoms, suffering, and prescriptions disappear for my clients.
I was shocked! Was food really this powerful?
It was all so exciting, I began sharing on social media. I took on more clients and developed courses to further help them. I saw the power of food medicine as years of debilitating disease were reversed over and over again.
I continue to learn all I can. Recently I also earned my board certification as an Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner (IFNCP).
I am so thankful to the family, friends, and clients that first trusted me with their health so I could learn this incredible practice of food as medicine.
I am determined to take you with me on my journey of healing joint diseases with food medicine, sharing all I’ve learned, and all I continue to learn. My goal is to make food medicine simple, do-able and affordable for every person.
